As part of her role on American Heart Association’s Bay Area Task Force, Andrea Bloom, Founder of ConnectWell, moderated an American Heart Association’s Fit-Friendly Worksite webinar to help Bay Area organizations learn about the program and its eligibility requirements.
The American Heart Association’s Fit-Friendly Worksite Recognition Program highlights employers who champion the health of their employees. Since its inception in 2007, over 3,000 worksites representing over 10 million employees have been acknowledged. In the Bay Area, 80 employers have AHA Fit-Friendly status, and as part of this outreach we are looking to help more Bay Area employers become recognized.
Criteria to earn this recognition fall into three key areas of wellness: Physical Activity, Nutrition, and Culture. Your organization may already meet or be close to meeting the criteria for Fit-Friendly Worksite Recognition. The Fit-Friendly Worksite Program recognizes organizations of 25 or more employees at Gold and Platinum levels and there are also Innovation awards for worksites and communities.
Worksite wellness is becoming a must-have for employers to not only contain healthcare costs, but to attract and retain talent. The benefits of the Fit-Friendly Worksite Program are multiple and include recognition on the AHA website, a plaque to display at your organization, an online listing on the AHA honor roll, use of the Fit-Friendly Worksite seal for internal, intranet and recruiting purposes and more.
We encourage everyone who in a position to promote health in the workplace to research the requirements of the Fit-Friendly Worksite online application. The application process has two new application and renewal cycles—April 1 and November 1, and the awards are announced in January and June. If your organization currently meets the Fit-Friendly guidelines, apply by November 1, 2013. However, if you need guidance to design and implement wellness programs that meet the Fit-Friendly criteria, visit ConnectWell to learn about our wellness consulting and programming and contact us.
